How It All Began...
| In 2004, we sold the house we'd raised our babies in... and a young couple bought it who were waiting for their first child to arrive from Guatemala. Recently, they began attending our church, so we had them over for dinner on Wednesday, 12/5/07. When they arrived, they had 2 Guatemalan children in tow—a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl. They also told us they were waiting to receive their third child, a one-year-0ld boy from Liberia. "Liberia? We have talked about adopting an older boy from Liberia, but the avenues we pursued closed," I said. My new friend Rebecca remained mum. On Friday, she sent me an email and delicately told me that she knew of an older boy awaiting a forever family in the same orphanage as her Liberian son. She sent me a link to pictures and more information. I printed that info and took it out to dinner with my family. Dave and I were immediately drawn to the boy, Sayfou, as well as his biological sister, Matterline. As we discussed it with our girls, they were very enthusiastic about adding both kids to our family! We found out that Sayfou and Matterline have a younger sister who was adopted in September and brought back to live with her forever family in Charlotte, NC. Her name is Angel... and she only lives 15 minutes away from us! Her parents also go to our church! You can find out more about the Rutledge family at Rutledge6. So I ask you: do you see the hand of God at work here? |
